What We Believe
(The full text of all our beliefs is contained in The Book of Concord, 1580.)
1. Jesus Christ has conquered sin, death and all the powers of evil by dying for us.
2. By faith in Jesus we can share His victory and live in fellowship with God now and forever.
3. We believe that Jesus is truly God and man, the Savior of the world who paid for us and all people with His blood. Because of Him we are free to live forgiven lives forever in this world and in His kingdom of glory.
4. All people and the whole universe were created by God. He loves us all and wants to save us all to live with Him forever.
5. Our problem is sin--an in-born animosity to God and rebellion against His will.
6. Jesus is true God and true man, God's way of dealing with our sin.
7. God the Holy Spirit is working now to bring people to faith in Christ through telling the message about Jesus and celebrating Baptism and the Lord's Supper.
8. The church is God's people, everyone whom He has brought to faith in Jesus.
9. God speaks to the world two distinct messages: the Law and the Gospel. The Law tells us what we are supposed to do and reveals how far we are from doing it. The Gospel tells of God's forgiveness and invites us to believe.
10. In Baptism and Holy Communion God is working to create and strengthen faith in God. Faith shows itself in love for God and other people.
11. One day Jesus will come back to earth, judge the living and the dead, take His people home to heaven with Him and say to those who have opposed Him, "Depart from me to the place prepared for the devil and his angels."
12. Salvation is a free gift available to everyone who will believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.
